Elder Cafe Book Club – Starting in November!

Join East Side Elders’ free book club for an opportunity to meet new friends, read more books, and learn something new!  The East Side Elders Book Club will meet on the first Monday of each month, starting November 7, 2016 from 1pm to 2pm.  The club is open to seniors 60 and better and is limited to 10 participants.  To join, call us at 651-683-2326 or email us at Volunteer@EastSideElders.org.  Our first selection is The Latehomecomer by Kao Kalia Yang, an author who lives in Minneapolis:

“In search of a place to call home, thousands of Hmong families made the journey from the war-torn jungles of Laos to the overcrowded refugee camps of Thailand and onward to America. But lacking a written language of their own, the Hmong experience has been primarily recorded by others. Driven to tell her family’s story after her grandmother’s death, The Latehomecomer is Kao Kalia Yang’s tribute to the remarkable woman whose spirit held them all together. It is also an eloquent, firsthand account of a people who have worked hard to make their voices heard.” (Description from Syndedics)

First Meeting:

Monday, November 7 at 463 Maria Avenue, in the library. For our first meeting, we will discuss details about the book club, distribute books, and enjoy some light snacks.  This event is potluck, so please bring a dish to share!

To join, please call 651-683-2326 or email at Volunteer@EastSideElders.org as membership is limited to the first 10 people to sign up.
